Melania Trump to skip Camp David trip, marking a 22-day absence

The first lady was seen for the last time in public on May 10, four days before she was hospitalized to treat a kidney condition.

The White House said Friday that Melania Trump will not join her husband in the Camp David presidential recall this weekend.

Donald Trump was scheduled to go to Maryland on Friday afternoon, but authorities said his wife would not join Donald Trump on that day.

His absence will mark 22 consecutive days without a public appearance of the first lady after a recent hospitalization. The first lady was last seen on May 10, when she and the president welcomed three Americans who had been released from detention in North Korea.

The White House announced four days later that Melania Trump had been hospitalized to treat a kidney condition. She stayed 5 days before returning to the White House.

On Thursday night, she tweeted: “I’m here at the White House with my family, feeling great, & working hard on behalf of children & the American people!”

It is not yet clear when his next public appearance will be.

Asked recently about his wife’s health, Donald Trump told reporters: “She’s doing great.” The president pointed up at a window and said: “Right there. She’s doing great. Just looking at us, right there.”

Melania Trump did not appear.
