The Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau vowed to press ahead with retaliatory tariffs on 1 July during the G7 summit in Quebec on Friday.
“It would be with regret but it would be with absolute clarity and affirmness that we move forward with retaliatory measures on 1 July” – Mr. Trudeau
Speaking at a news conference, he described Trump’s decision as insulting to invoke national security concerns to justify steel and aluminum tariffs.
He also said that other country where imposing “massive tariffs” on the United States.
Despite the tension over United State tariffs on steel and aluminum imports, the Join Communique was reached.
Mr. Trudeau said “Canadians are polite and reasonable but we will also not be pushed around”
Mr. Trump responded with a tweet saying that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau acted so meek during the G7 meeting.
PM Justin Trudeau of Canada acted so meek and mild during our @G7 meetings only to give a news conference after I left saying that, “US Tariffs were kind of insulting” and he “will not be pushed around.” Very dishonest & weak. Our Tariffs are in response to his of 270% on dairy!
