Yahoo in the UK has been fined over £250,000 due to a cyber attack which took place on their platform in 2014.
The UK Information Commissioner’s Office imposed these fines because of a data breach which impacted over half a billion users.
According to reports state- sponsored hackers stole personal information. This included names, e mails, and unencrypted security questions and answers.
Due to the fact that Yahoo did not take necessary precautionary measures to prevent this incident from happening, and it was not addressed in a timely manner, authorities are holding the company fully accountable.
This data breach has been identified as one of the biggest in history because of its scale and the amount of time it took to be remedied.
