Reuters has confirmed a man has shot 2 police women and a bystander in Liege, Belgium Tuesday morning. He was eventually shot dead in a shootout with police. It has not been confirmed whether or not this was a terrorist attack.
The shooter was a 36- year old male who had just been released from a Liege prison on Monday for drug charges. According to one police source, the gunman was heard yelling “Allahu Akbar”, which translates to “God is greatest” in Arabic. Investigators say this could possibly indicate terrorist motives. However, the suspect’s criminal history has been full of minor crimes. They didn’t particularly make him a threat to society.
Liege was the scene of a bloody massacre in 2011 where the gunman killed several people and wounded over 100 others. Sources say Belgium has been on high alert since the 2015 attack in Brussels and the 2016 Paris attack.
