A gas depot exploded in central Nigeria, killing 18 people and leaving some burned beyond recognition, a witness said Monday.

Nigeria’s Senate president, Bukola Saraki, in a Twitter post called the explosion “horrific” and said he met with survivors. He offered prayers for families who lost relatives.

It’s common practice in Nigeria for gas dealers to have mini-stores where regulatory bodies are not prominent. Explosions are not an uncommon occurrence. 10 people were decimated in during a January 10th explosion catastrophe in Magodo, Lagos.

I heard they increased the numbers of dead and injured as people who came to help were caught in the spreading fires.

I’m a truck driver and tankers ain’t no joke even in American. Certain precautions have to be taken when dealing with them. I hear they have confirmed 35 dead and over a hundred injured. This is a horrible accident and I hope changes can be put in place to help prevent this fron happening in the future. 🙏🙏🙏
