Rafael Decomas, a Florida Atlantic University student was arrested last Wednesday after a late-night tweet, saying his data structure final exam was too early in the morning.
The 20-year-old vented from a Twitter account called @Ashelaniqua, saying, “Bey I gern f—ing kill dis professor bey this is my confession to a premeditated murder.” He was speaking about his professor, Karl Weiss.
University police took the statement seriously. They then tracked his identity down by looking through clubs and groups he was associated with.
Decomas explained to the police he was feeling upset because he would have to wake up at 5 a.m. to leave his home far away just to make it to campus in time for the exam. He said he never really intended to hurt anyone. He was simply frustrated.
FAU is following strict procedures when it comes to dealing with death threats. The United States have been plagued with mass shootings. Many local authorities are cracking down and taking precautionary measures if it means thwarting another national tragedy.
Decomas has since been released on a $5,000 bond. He was charged with sending a written threat to kill or do bodily injury. While he claims he wouldn’t really act on his words, you NEVER know what a Florida man will do to have things his way… especially a South Florida man.
