Harvey Weinstein has been officially indicted on rape charges Wednesday in New York City. He is being charged with rape in the first and third degrees, and criminal sexual act in the first degree.
This will be the first criminal case Weinstein faces as a result of several sexual misconduct allegations. Benjamin Brafman, Weinstein’s lawyer says he will “vigorously defend” his client. He claims these allegations are untrue and unfounded.
The defense claims Weinstein had a relationship with one of his accusers before and after these sexual assault allegations. Weinstein turned himself in to authorities last Friday. He is out of jail on a $1million bail and is scheduled to appear in court again July 30th.
