25-year-old track and field runner, Kavon Nelson, was shot and killed Tuesday morning in his home.
According to police reports, around 12:30 a.m. Nelson was home when armed intruders let themselves in and began shooting. Nelson was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. Authorities have not established any particular motive for this murder.
At the time of his passing, he was a member of the Michael Clarke-led Akan Track Club. He represented Jamaica and the North American, Central American and Caribbean under-23 championships in 2014.
Clarke spoke the The Star , saying “Kavon is a youngster who loved track and field. He has been with the club for five to six years. He loved track and field and was full of life. It’s quite unfortunate his life ended the way it did. He was so young and promising.”
