Madonna gives tribute speech to herself during VMA’s

Madonna is under fire for her not-so-tribute to Aretha Franklin she gave at the MTV VMA’s Monday. The six minute speech given by the pop idol sounded more like a self-indulgent monologue about her own career than the impact Aretha Franklin had on her life.

Madonna diverged into an anecdotal ramble about her own career, barely mentioning Franklin.

She received “Donkey of the Day” from Charlamagne on the Breakfast Club morning show for the lack of homage which was paid to the Queen of Soul.

Tuesday Madonna claimed the speech was not intended to be an Aretha Franklin tribute. According to CNN, Madonna said she was asked to present the award for video of the year at the VMAs and told to “share any anecdotes I had in my career connected to Aretha Franklin.” But she did “not intend to do a tribute to her,” according to a post the singer shared on Instagram.

Need I say more, I think Charlamagne said it all. And for the record Aretha Franklin the Queen of Soul will never be forgotten, her music will live on forever!!!!

From the above clip the speech didn’t seem that bad. But they should have gotten a respectable singer to do her tribute. I’ve seen interviews where they ask Aretha about singers that use autotune and she didn’t know what it was. When they explained it she said, “ridiculous.” Recently she said she liked Adele, Alicia Keys, and Jennifer Hudson. Any one of them could have done a better tribute.
