Madonna is under fire for her not-so-tribute to Aretha Franklin she gave at the MTV VMA’s Monday. The six minute speech given by the pop idol sounded more like a self-indulgent monologue about her own career than the impact Aretha Franklin had on her life.
Madonna diverged into an anecdotal ramble about her own career, barely mentioning Franklin.
She received “Donkey of the Day” from Charlamagne on the Breakfast Club morning show for the lack of homage which was paid to the Queen of Soul.
Tuesday Madonna claimed the speech was not intended to be an Aretha Franklin tribute. According to CNN, Madonna said she was asked to present the award for video of the year at the VMAs and told to “share any anecdotes I had in my career connected to Aretha Franklin.” But she did “not intend to do a tribute to her,” according to a post the singer shared on Instagram.Facebook contests by Rewards Fuel
