North Korean official flying to New York City in a bid to save Trump-Kim summit

Donald Trump has confirmed that a top North Korean official will fly to New York in an attempt to organize his on and off summit with Kim Jong Un.

The president of the United States confirmed via Twitter that Kim Yong Chol would make the trip after South Korean media reported that his name was on the passenger list on a flight from Beijing on Wednesday.

“We have put a great team together for our talks with North Korea,” said Mr Trump.

“Meetings are currently taking place concerning summit, and more. Kim Young (sic)  Chol, the vice-chairman of North Korea, heading now to New York. Solid response to my letter, thank you!”

Kim will meet with the US Secretary of State. UU., Mike Pompeo. The White House said the United States “continues to actively prepare” for the summit.

Trump pulled out of the planned summit in a letter last week but quickly announced that he could return to normal.

He said on Saturday that the United States was still considering the date of June 12 for the summit in Singapore.

The former military intelligence chief, Kim, who is Kim Jong Un’s vice president, will become the highest-ranking official in Pyongyang to travel to the US. UU Since 2000.

Kim coordinated the two meetings of the North Korean president with Mr. Pompeo in April and May.

He and Kim Jong Un’s sister were the only North Korean officials who attended the first inter-Korean summit in April along with the North Korean leader.

The news of his imminent trip to New York came after US officials, led by the US ambassador in Manila, Sung Kim, arrived in North Korea and met on Sunday with their counterparts in the border village of Panmunjom.
