Philadelphia mayor sounds off on Trump

Philadelphia mayor says Trump is disingenuous

President Donald Trump cancelled the Philadelphia Eagles’ visit to the White House Monday. It is tradition for the winning team of the NFL Super Bowl to visit the White House and meet the President of the United States of America.

In the wake of the NFL kneeling protests, President Trump has decided not to allow the reigning Eagles to visit the White House.

Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney is outraged with the president for canceling the White House celebration of the Eagles’ Super Bowl win. This is his way of chastising players who refuse to stand for the anthem.

Tuesday morning Kenney said on CNN,  “When he had the opportunity to serve his country for real, his father got him out of it, and I think it’s really disingenuous for him to talk about patriotism in any way shape or form.”

The mayor was taking digs at Trump’s deferments during the Vietnam War for his attendance to college and for supposed bone spurs in his heels.

Kenney said Eagles fans would proudly take the president’s withdrawal of the invitation.

“Eagles fans understand that our players are individuals who can stand up for themselves and stand up for what they believe in and that’s what this country’s about,” Kenney said.
