Pro-baseball player suspended for remainder of 2018 season for domestic violence charges

Jose Torres Mugshot: The San Diego Padres (MLB baseball team) announced Torres is suspended without pay for the 2018 season due to domestic violence charges.

San Diego Padres’ pitcher, Jose Torres, has been suspended without pay from the baseball team for the remainder of the 2018 season due to domestic abuse charges.

This stems from an incident in December 2017. Torres was involved in an altercation with his girlfriend at their home in Phoenix, Arizona. The argument escalated. He then brandished a semiautomatic firearm.

The 24 year old was placed on MLB restriction before the beginning of baseball season. He has not pitched since then. His suspension, effective June 5, prohibits him from playing in the next 100 games.

Torres faces charges of felony aggravated assault and recklessly endangering and destruction of property. He plead not guilty on January 9, in the Maricopa County superior court.
