On the first anniversary of the violent hurricane that turned Puerto Rico upside down, the island has their sight set on statehood in the United States.
Governor Ricardo Roselló wrote a letter to President Trump earlier in the week hilighting the poor government response to Hurricane Maria and other states hit by hurricanes. He stressed the necessity in upgrading Puerto Rico from a U.S. territory to a state.
In an appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe Roselló said, “I think the case has essentially been made to the world in the aftermath of Maria… The truth of the matter is we’ve been treated like second-class citizens.”
He continued, “It’s time for decision-makers to put up or shut up and state if they will welcome Puerto Rico as the 51st state, if they will do what’s in their power to make it happen, or if they will reject the right side of history.”
