America has been in a frenzy as people wait anxiously to hear the controversial tape of Donald Trump saying the forbidden word. In the meantime there’s another sound byte which has the attention of liberals and African Americans.
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders made a statement Tuesday apologizing for making inaccurate claims that President Trump has created three times as many jobs for black workers than Barack Obama.
Sanders stated the alternative fact that, “When President Obama left after eight years in office — eight years in office — he had only created 195,000 jobs for African Americans,” Sanders told reporters. “President Trump in his first year and a half has already tripled what President Obama did in eight years.”
This claim was indeed false. Black employment increased by 3 million during the years 2009-2017. From January 2017- July of this year, black employment has increased by 700,000.
The White House Council of Economic Advisers took responsibility for the misinformation. They published the correct data comparing black job creation following Obama’s elections in 2008 and 2012 with black job creation following Trump’s election in 2016.
The CEA said on Twitter:
Sanders later tweeted:
Correction from today’s briefing: Jobs numbers for Pres Trump and Pres Obama were correct, but the time frame for Pres Obama wasn’t. I’m sorry for the mistake, but no apologies for the 700,000 jobs for African Americans created under President Trump https://t.co/EXGvbliwlS— Sarah Sanders (@PressSec) August 15, 2018
