Trump visits North Carolina as Florence death toll reaches nearly 40

President Donald Trump visited a New Bern, North Carolina church on Wednesday in  the midst of disaster brought on by Hurricane Florence.

The storm has claimed 37 lives so far. Among the most disturbing losses are the one-year-old who was washed away when his mother lost control of her car and spun off road. As water flooded her car, she tried to save her child, but lost grip and he floated away. He was found dead days later. In another tragedy, two mental health patients drowned when a sheriff’s van was washed away by flood waters.

The governor of North Carolina has asked evacuees to stay away for now. He warned the storm is not over and things will get worse before they get better. So afar the storm has swamped the state in over three feet of water.

“I know it was hard to leave home, and it is even harder to wait and wonder whether you even have a home to go back to,” Gov. Roy Cooper said.
